Carefree Highway Riders are a harmony-driven duo featuring well-known Canadian songwriters Steve Brockley and Marin Patenaude. While both artists have carved out respected solo careers with their original material, this collaboration is a heartfelt detour dedicated to the timeless songs of Gordon Lightfoot.
Rooted in the folk traditions of Canada and carried forward in the spirit of the open road, Carefree Highway Riders kick up dust on old songs and old memories that resonate deeper than you remember, while celebrating one of the country’s most beloved songwriters and moments for their own material to feel right at home.

Steve Brockley: A songwriter who can really pick guitar – a guitar picker that can really write a song. Since leaving BC to cut his teeth on the stages of Toronto and Montreal, Brockley put in time as a hired gun on guitar before releasing a record of his own originals. Now living in the Kootenays -three albums in with number four on the way, Brockley has recently leaned even harder into the traditional roots of the music he loves – resulting in another round of straight-up country and folk songs good enough for other songwriters to cover.
Marin Patenaude: She writes and sings in musical conversation. Clear voice, steady guitar, and lyrics that land because they’re lived, not clever for the sake of it. Small town roots and big-city branches, and an abundance of rich fodder to discover in between.
